Energy efficiency in general equilibrium with input–output linkages

چکیده
Industrial activity periodically experiences breakthrough innovations in energy efficiency, but the estimated impacts of these on aggregate use are highly varied. We develop a general equilibrium model to show this variation is part determined by structure economy’s input–output network. Our results industrial efficiency improvements affect through adjustments factor and commodity markets, process structural transformation that alters way used produced economy. describe impact processes using new centrality concepts measure extent which an industry implicitly produces or consumes resources. In calibrated simulation, we find explains between 38 92% rebound effect, suggests critical determinant effects efficiency.

General Equilibrium Rebound from Energy Efficiency Policies ∗
I study the general equilibrium implications of large-scale policies to improve energy efficiency, which are being implemented around the world to mitigate climate change. Energy efficiency policies “rebound” when economic responses undercut their direct energy savings. I develop an analytic general equilibrium framework that allows improvements in energy efficiency to affect output prices and ...

Energy efficiency improvements “rebound” when economic responses undercut their direct energy savings. I develop an analytic general equilibrium framework that allows improvements in energy efficiency to affect output prices and factor prices. I show that general equilibrium channels typically amplify rebound and make it more likely that improvements in efficiency end up increasing total energy...
متن کاملThe Effects of Energy Efficiency Improvements in the Electricity Sector on the Iranian Economy: A Computable General Equilibrium Approach
Improving energy efficiency is one of the most important energy policies in many countries. This study mainly focused on the economic and environmental effects of energy efficiency improvements in Iran’s electricity sector on Iran’s economy using a computable general equilibrium framework. Furthermore, the potential benefits of carbon reduction were explored. The results showed that the most si...
متن کاملMoral Hazard and Efficiency in General Equilibrium with Anonymous
A "folk theorem" originating, among others, in the work of Stiglitz maintains that competitive equihbria are always or "generically" inefficient (unless contracts directly specify consumption levels as in Prescott and Townsend, thus bypassing trading in anonymous markets). This paper critically reevaluates these claims in the context of a general equilibrium economy with moral hazard. We first ...

The impact is measured through simulations using m...
